"Creatives that pursue art school grow up thinking they’re unique and extremely talented. Art school slaps you back into reality because you are thrust in a room of 25 kids exactly like you. Equally as talented or often times better. And these are the same people that you’ll be competing for in the job market. I say skip the line and jump into the industry as soon as possible, even if it’s the lowest rung position. Learn at home. Learn to sell your work. Constantly practice your craft. Be a lifelong student. You’ll be 4 years ahead of the pack in terms of experience. But the biggest advantage is you won’t have $100k worth of student debt."
I recently did an interview for On The Cusp, a Bay Area based group highlighting some great artists and designers.
In the talk with Shona, I tell him the story about my work and interest in design and crush every art school hopeful’s dreams for their own good.
